CERN

Library of Fortran subroutines for numerical analysis oriented towards a high-energy physics environment.

GAMS/BDMLP/MINOS/ZOOM

General Algebraic Modeling System for solving optimization problems, linear, non-linear and mixed integer.

GLIM

GLIM is a package designed to facilitate the fitting of generalised linear models.

LAPACK

No description.

DXML

Digital Extended Math Library (DXML) is a set of computationally intensive mathematical subroutines that is optimized for Alpha AXP platforms. It includes among other things LAPACK and BLAS routines.

To use the dxml library, add the option -ldxml to your fortan compiler statement.

More details can be found in the man-page of dxml on ASTER.

MATHEMATICA

Interactive system to perform mathematical computation. Handles numeric, symbolic, and graphical calculations.

Troubleshooting fonts when using Mathematica on ASTER from a remote client.

for UNIX, Linux and MacOS X clients:
to set the mathematica fonts from a remote UNIX client, give the command xset +fp tcp/mach:7100 on your remote UNIX client. and logon onto aster again. You should now have the necessary fonts.
Windows clients (using X-win):
check the Starnet website for additional fonts

MATLAB

MATLAB is an interactive ``matrix laboratory'' for tasks involving matrices, graphics and general numerical computation.

Matlab is available on ASTER, but also a part of the VUB/ULB software site license. For details about the latter, please see the Softweb pages.

Available toolboxes are MATLAB, SIMULINK, System Identification Toolbox, Optimization Toolbox, Signal Processing Toolbox, Spline Toolbox, Neural Network Toolbox, Real-Time Workshop, Image Processing Toolbox, Control System Toolbox, Fuzzy Logic Toolbox, Statistics Toolbox, Matlab Compiler.

Currently 3 versions are available on ASTER: the default version is 5.3.1 (release 11.1), but versions 6.1 (release 12.1) and 6.5 (release 13) are also available. The commands to be issued are:

Documentation: MATLAB Online Reference Documentation on ASTER (only accessible through a webbrowser on ASTER)
Useful references: The MathWorks, Inc.; Mathtools.net: Complementary products for MATLAB; Mathtools.net: Scientific portal for MATLAB, MIDEVA, Excel, C, C++, Fortran and Java

NAG

Numerical Algorithms Group is a large and coherent collection of high quality subroutines for numerical and statistical analysis.

NAG on ASTER: 2 versions of NAG exist on ASTER, one for Fortran77 and one for Fortran90. To use either of these versions, add the options -lnagsmp -ldxml or -lnagfl90 -ldxml respectively.

Documentation: Online help is available with the command naghelp.

Useful references: The Numerical Algorithms Group Ltd;

SAS

Integrated applications system for data entry, access and management, statistical and mathematical analysis and presentation, applications development.

Documentation: SAS information

SPSS

Data analysis and statistics package oriented to survey analysis. There is a site licence for PC and Macintosh. See the Softweb pages for details.

More information is on the SPSS Inc. Website.
