General

Several databases and e-journals are only accessible for authorized users. Authentication is done via IP address checking. If you are not working through VUBnet, you will not get access to these licensed resources.

As a staff member or student, you have external access to these protected sources via EZproxy. This is a so-called pass-through or URL rewriting proxy. After identification (your VUBnet username and password) and authentication you will get access to the licensed information source. Your VUB network identity (NetID) is in most cases the same as the username/login name of your e-mail address (e.g. mjansens).

As alumnus and or external visitor, you can only consult the electronic sources in the library. You are given a temporary user name and password.

Wireless network

Two wireless networks are available on the VUB campus: Urbizone and VUBnet.

Urbizone is publicly available but unencrypted: anyone with enough knowledge of wireless networks can capture all data you send or receive, e.g. passwords and e-mail. Several applications on the VUB network, among which the consultation of electronic sources, will not be accessible for this reason.

The "VUBnet" wireless network on the other hand uses WPA 2 encryption and allows the consultation of the digital library. This network requires a valid VUB NetID and password. It also requires a computer or wireless device that is capable of using WPA2 encryption.

EndNote Web

You can consult EndNote Web everywhere via the URL http://www.myendnoteweb.com. The only condition is that you log in at least once a year from a computer on the VUB campus or in the UZ. It is not possible to open EndNote Web via EZproxy. If you try to open it externally from e.g. the Web of Knowledge, an error message will be displayed. Go therefore straight to the above mentioned website.

The page does not load

If a page does not load when you try to open it via EZproxy, the network on which you are working blocks port 2048. Contact your network administrator and ask him/her to open this port.
