The Leo Apostel Center invites everyone to the 52nd of its interdisciplinary seminars in the Foundations series. In this series CLEA invites scholars that are actively engaged in the research on the foundations of a particular discipline. Their lectures will always be directed to an interdisciplinary audience, and the discussions aim at confronting the foundations of the different disciplines. On the geometry of the gravitational field ******************************************* Prof. Dr. Constantin Piron ************************** Department of Theoretical Physics, 1211 Geneva 4. ************************************************ Monday, May 21, 2 pm, at the CLEA house, Krijgskundestraat 33, 1160 Brussels. Abstract: In usual relativity everything must be derived from the scalar product in space time. Taking this idea we discuss how the Einstein gravitational theory can be implemented in geometry. Having discussed the separation of space and time we introduce the Cartan invariant tensors which generalize the Einstein energy momentum tensor. The resulting free field equations impose the homogeneity of this field. On the other hand, the gravitational field derived from the Schwartzchild solution, which is not homogeneous, is nevertheless conserved. We discuss the possibility of exchange of different kind of energies like we have in Maxwell's theory.
