Niels Van Dijk
Niels van Dijk is a lecturer in legal philosophy at the research group for Contextual Research in law (CORE) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) and at the law faculty of Saint-Louis University (FUSL). He is also a post-doctoral researcher at VUB’s Centre for Law Science Technology and Society (LSTS) on a fellowship granted by Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO). Niels van Dijk has participated in several national and European interdisciplinary research projects. He is the author of the monograph “Grounds of the Immaterial. A Conflict-Based Approach to Intellectual Rights”.
His research is situated at the intersection between legal theory, science and technology studies (STS) and governance of digital innovation, where he is interested in the nature of law in a changing technological world. Other fields of interest include: philosophy of science, technology assessment and ethnography of legal institutions. Legal fields of his interest especially include: intellectual rights, privacy and data protection.
He holds a PhD degree in law by the VUB, and LLM and MA degrees in law and philosophy by the University of Amsterdam. In the past, he has been a researcher at digital security department at the Radboud University Nijmegen and visiting researcher at the law department of the London School of Economics and at the philosophy department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
