18.11.2009 - New FOST member
Since 1 October 2009, historian Oliver de Maret is a member of FOST. His Ph.D. research deals with Italian immigrants in Brussels, their meeting-places and the construction of identity linked to food and foodways, roughly from 1880 to 1935.

26.08.2009 - FOST and the Week of Taste 2009
From November 12th to November 22nd, the Week of Taste 2009 will take place. On Tuesday November 17th, FOST and the department 'Uitstraling Permanente Vorming' at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will host a series of lectures. FOST members Peter Scholliers and Anneke Geyzen will each talk about different food related issues.

We would like to draw your attention to these Calls. The organizing committee of a seminar on health and the city (Spain, 1880-1940) is looking for people who would like to present a paper. And professor John Simons is looking for contributions for his encyclopedia on vegetarianism in the world.

23.04.2009 - Exposition A table/Aan tafel
Zinneke tries to engage Brussels' citizens, artists, communities ... to work together. This project traditionally ends with the Zinneke Parade. This year's theme is 'at the table'. On Wednesday, April 22nd, an exposition exploring this theme, was officially opened.

03.02.2009 - Peter Scholliers wins the Vlaamse Cultuurprijs voor Smaakcultuur
On February 2nd, the annual Vlaamse Cultuurprijzen (Flemish Culture Awards) were awarded. FOST-president Peter Scholliers won the award in the category Smaakcultuur (Culture of Taste), before the other nominees Slow Food Vlaanderen en 't Grom. With these awards, the Flemish government wishes to acknowledge people and organizations that help to put culture in Flanders on the map.

19.01.2009 - New FOST member
Since January, 1st, Anneke Geyzen is a member of FOST. Her Ph.D. research examines the myths, perception and constructions surrounding the artisanal quality of fermentable foods. It is conducted in cooperation with IMDO (Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology).

The last issue of the journal Volkskunde contains two articles written by a member of FOST. Steven Van den Berghe writes about ethnic diversity in Brussels restaurants, Daniëlle De Vooght discusses the aspect of exotism at king Leopold II's dining table.
