Patricia Van den Eeckhout

Patricia Van den Eeckhout has a Ph.D. in History (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 1980). She is a part-time Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where she teaches, 'The history of daily life', ‘Methods of historical research’, 'Political rhetoric', and 'Discourse analysis'.
She published reference books on information retrieval in the social sciences and the humanities, and on Belgian archives and sources of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her research focuses on supervision and authority and the language of labour in the 19th and 20th centuries, customs and contracts in labour relations, the history of retailing, the history of social housing policy, the history of publicity in the 19th century, the history of consumption and in particular of food consumption, the rhetoric of social statistics, the history of daily life, and the historiography of social history. As a member of FOST, she is co-supervisor of the Ph.D. thesis of Nelleke Teughels and supervisor of the Ph.D. thesis of Mary-France Desmedt en Nathalie Parys.
