Who uses the word 'Welcome', should show an open door... Let us kick in this open door: our society is evolving. It even seems as if this evolution happens ever faster and without a break. More than ever, these changes need to be understood and explained. However, one should not think that societies from the past were static. Moreover, our current world is not only defined by change, but also by continuity. That is what history writing is about: studying societies-that-are-moving, trying to gain insight into all aspects of continuity and change. This also becomes clear when looking at the broad range of subjects that is being studied by the members of the History Department at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
