Who is who?

Jeff Fynn-Paul

Jeffrey Fynn-Paul received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2005. His specialty is the urban history of the Northwest Mediterranean and the Low Countries, 1300-1800. He has published articles on the late medieval economic and social crisis, including work on government debts, taxation, urban unrest, republicanism, and slavery. His work has appeared in the Journal of Medieval History, Past & Present, and the Brill festschrift for John Munro. A book titled Confronting the Urban Crisis: The Catalan City of Manresa, 1300-1450 is forthcoming with the University of Chicago Press (expected 2012). More recently, he has held postdoctoral research positions at the Universiteit van Utrecht and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he has engaged in research on government debt systems and entrepreneurship in the early modern Low Countries. His current position is with the group 'Networks of State and Capital: War, Military Institutions and Entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, ca. 1670-1795', which is part of the HOST research group. Fynn-Paul has also taught a wide range of medieval, early modern, European, and world history courses at the universities of Toronto, Hartford (where he held a visiting professorship) and Utrecht.
