Antonella Galetta holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law (University of Macerata, 2006), a Master's Degree in European and International Studies/International Relations - law track - (University of Trento, 2009) and a Second Level Master's Degree in Diplomacy and International Politics (University of Bologna, 2010). In 2008 she was a visiting student at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada where she conducted research for her Master thesis. Between 2010 and 2011 she worked at the European Parliament as a trainee and for a European NGO participating in the development of technical standards.

She joined the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and VUB’s Research Group on Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS) in 2012 where she worked on the EU FP7 project IRISS, ‘Increasing Resilience in Surveillance Societies’ (February 2012 - January 2015). Since then she has contributed to research conducted at LSTS in the area of privacy, data protection and surveillance. In 2014 she wrote an expert report about the legal framework of video surveillance in Europe commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

She is currently developing her doctoral research project which addresses the question of how to regulate state surveillance and focuses on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). Moreover, she is working on the EU project PHAEDRA II on ‘Improving Practical and Helpful cooperAtion betweEn Data Protection Authorities’ (January 2015 – January 2017).

Her research interests lie in the field of privacy, data protection and surveillance studies, as well as of human rights, new technologies and ICT.
