Sylwia Rasson holds a Ph.D. in law (Jagiellonian University, Krakow) with a specialization in international law. Her Ph.D. thesis subject is: The dispute settlement system in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). She graduated from the law school at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun where she obtained her Master's degree (Polish magister) in 2005. She spent the 2004-2005 academic year at the University of Antwerp, Faculty of Law where she completed the International and European Legal Studies Program with a magna cum laude diploma. She was a scholar-in-residence at the Arizona State University, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law where she was studying about NAFTA while working for American professors dealing with American-European law projects (Extraterritorial effect in the EU of American judgements for punitive damages; Laws in Europe regarding criminal punishment for possession of child pornography; Conclusion of international agreements by the EU). She obtained a LL.M. degree at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington D.C. in 2007.

Her professional experience is relatively short but characterized by a variety of tasks. She was teaching international law for three semesters at the Nicolaus Copernicus University while working for a governmental organization in Warsaw. She was an intern in the European Commission and worked as an associate in a law firm in Luxembourg. Her Ph.D degree was officially granted in September 2011. Currently she works for a private company in Antwerp and starting from 2012 she will be teaching again in Warsaw at a private university.

In terms of substantive areas of law, much of her interest focuses on international law, especially international trade and international dispute settlement, European law, common law, particularly American law and intellectual property law. She is expanding her scope of interest to legal matters regarding cybercrime. She is a freelance researcher at the LSTS since the end of 2011.
