Dieter Vandebroeck studeerde sociologie aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel en is sinds 2004 werkzaam bij de TOR-Groep. Als lid van het Steunpunt Re-Creatief Vlaanderen verrichtte hij aanvankelijk onderzoek naar de relatie tussen sociale participatie en cultuurconsumptie. Daarna was hij verantwoordelijk voor het TOR-onderzoek naar het openbare bibliotheekwezen in Vlaanderen. Zijn huidige onderzoeksinteresse situeert zich binnen het domein van de lichaamssociologie. Momenteel bereidt hij als FWO-aspirant dan ook een proefschrift voor over de sociale organisatie van lichaamspraktijken. Naast zijn onderzoek doceert hij regelmatig in het kader van het college 'Hedendaagse Sociologische Theorieën' en is hij tevens redactielid van het Vlaamse Tijdschrift voor Sociologie.

Dieter Vandebroeck joined the TOR Research Group in 2004 after obtaining his licence in sociology at the Free University of Brussels in the same year. As a member of the Cultural Policy Research Centre 'Re-creatief Vlaanderen' he conducted research on social capital and cultural consumption. After that he was responsible for the TOR-study on Flemish public libraries. His current research focuses on processes of social distinction and symbolic boundaries and how these relate to the management and modification of the body. He is currently preparing a doctoral dissertation on social class and reflexive embodiment with a grant from the Foundation for Scientific Research. Besides his research activities, he regularly teaches in the seminar 'Contemporary Social Theory' and is a member of the editorial board of the Flemish Sociological Journal.
