Solvay Council for Biology
The Solvay Institutes aim to play a significant role in the development of 21st-century biology, just as they have done for physics and chemistry. This year marks the inception of the first council for biology, following the unique model of the Councils for Physics and Chemistry. The inaugural Solvay Council for Biology will take place from April 18th to 20th and will be chaired by Professor Thomas Lecuit from the Collège de France, director of the Turing Center for Living Systems. The Solvay Council itself is closed to the public.
Public Lectures
On April 21st, a public event will be held at Flagey featuring several lectures by prominent scientists:
- Anthony Hyman, director of the Max Planck Institute in Dresden and winner of the prestigious Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences (2023), will discuss the physical and chemical mechanisms of information transfer at the cellular level in his lecture, "The Social Life of a Cell."

Thanks to Stephanie Palmer, professor at the University of Chicago, who will deliver the lecture "Seeing What's Coming," we will understand the anticipatory mechanisms of our brains. How does Serena Williams assess the best position to catch and return her opponent's ball, all in less than a fraction of a second?
