Collaborative online platform for social entrepreneurs launched

VUB Chair for Social Entrepreneurship

Vrije Universiteit Brussel will make a free innovative platform available for social entrepreneurs anywhere. The tool, facilitating crowdsourcing and crowdfunding, has been developed within the context of the VUB Chair for Social Entrepreneurship. The chair is held by professor Nikolay Dentchev. The platform will officially be launched on May 8th, at U-Residence on VUB campus Etterbeek at 15:30. Please find all the information about the new platform attached.

Nikolay Dentchev is professor in Entrepreneurship and CSR. “The platform we're launching has but one objective: support social entrepreneurs. As many as possible! We have a very creative and warm community at VUB, who gladly support social initiatives. By now, there are already several partners who wish to launch and support projects on our platform. Together we can help social entrepreneurs turn their dreams into a reality!”

Such as Jente Rosseel for instance, a Belgian senior in Engineering: Computer sciences at VUB. After an internship in Kenia, he remained intrigued by the lack of resources and efficiency in the Kenian education sector. Which is why he co-founded Elewa, a social enterprise that assists schools in providing high quality education, using ICT solutions to improve their processes and techniques.

Like Jente’s idea every project on the platform will have its own detail page with a full description of the targets, required funding to start the project and contact information of the involved individuals.

VUB Chair for Social Entrepreneurship
The VUB Chair for Social Entrepreneurship started in 2015 at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in collaboration with Wolters Kluwer Belgium, Close the Gap and Euroclear. The goal is to bring together the academic and business worlds in search of sustainable business models within social entrepreneurship.

On May 8th, at the official inauguration of the platform at U-Residence on VUB Campus Etterbeek, a panel discussion will be held entitled “We care about Social Entrepreneurs”. Participants are The Shift, Ashoka, Close the Gap, Poseco and Sociale Innovatie Fabriek. The event will be moderated by professor Jan Jonker, professor in Sustainable Entrepreneurship at Radboud Universiteit te Nijmegen.
The event will start at 15:30.
