This multidisciplinary master program enhances the scientific background and bridges the gap between medical knowledge and technology. The standard learning track in the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (120 ECTS) is made up of 4 modules:
1) 33 ECTS of compulsory fundamental courses (1st year of the standard learning track) 2) 39 ECTS of specialised courses (of which 18 ECTS in the 1st year of the standard learning track)
3) 24 ECTS of elective courses (of which 9 ECTS in the 1st year of the standard learning track)
4) the Master Thesis (24 ECTS) (to accomplish in the 2nd year of the standard learning track) Each of the modules should be successfully completed to obtain the master degree. The student must respect the specified registration requirements. The educational board strongly suggests the student to follow the standard learning track. Only this model track can guarantee a time schedule without overlaps of the compulsory course units.

At least 24 ECTS of electives must be selected, in order of priority, from:

- the other master programs of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Ghent University (contact your faculty secretariat).

Students must accomplished 9 ECTS of elective courses in the 1st year and 15 ECTS of electives in the 2nd year of the standard learning track. The students' selection must always be approved by the authorized Curriculum Council.

Remark: The module 'Engineering (Physics) in Oncology' also include the electives that are compulsory to students aiming at the acquisition of a certificate of 'Expert in Medical Radiation Physics'.
To complete this module, students must obtain 24 study points.

The Master Thesis (24 ECTS) is compulsory. Registration for the Master Thesis is allowed provided that

1. the student doesn't have a combined bachelor-master enrollment

2. the student has already successfully accomplished 45 ECTS of compulsory courses of the master program (exemptions included).
