Arrivals in Brussels
Letter of Acceptance
Due to some changes in the legislation, you can be asked to state proof of the purpose of your journey when you enter our country. Have your letter of acceptance from the university (or a legalised copy) at hand, so that you can show it, when asked.
Let us know when you will arrive!
For several reasons we urge you to come on time (deadline registration at university is around 31 October)
We already stated that registration is only possible until the date that is mentioned on your letter of acceptance. Getting settled also takes time. We must know when exactly you are going to arrive!
You can let us know by telephone, fax, e-mail or send us a letter by surface mail. You can find all contact details on the contact page.
Vrije Universiteit Brussel offices are closed on January 1 st, May 1 st, July 11 th , July 21 st , August 15 th , November 1 st and 11 th, December 25 th.
Arriving at the university
Note that the Vrije Universiteit has two campuses. The International Relations Office is situated in Pleinlaan 5, 1050 Brussels. You should go to the reception desk of the International Relations Office first.
Registration at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The international relations and mobility administrators will hand you over all the necessary documents for registration. They will give you all information about your studying at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and about your stay in Brussels and Belgium.
Registration allways has to be done in person. As soon as you can (best before leaving for Belgium) take an appointment with your International Relations and Mobility administrator so she/he can prepare your registration and your formalities.
After you have met the International Relations and Mobility administrator, you will be given the necessary documents to register as a student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. You will have to take with you: your passport (with Visa "Type D") and your letter of admission. If you pay your tuition fees immediately by bank card you will also need an identification photo. Tuition fees are waived for students on the EU funded Socrates Erasmus exchange scheme.
