Computing facilities

Activating your account

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel provides free access to the Internet and an e-mail account for every student.

ComputerOn your student card, you will find your personal PIN code (4 digits), which allows you to activate your university network identity and e-mail address (you will be asked to choose a password: don’t forget it because you will have to fill it in at each time you want to use all facilities.).

Activating your network identity can be performed in the computer rooms, the way to do this can be found on the announcements around these rooms and for some sites on the login screens of the computers. After completing this procedure, your network access will be activated within 24 hours.

This procedure has to be repeated every academic year.
We advise students to log in at the beginning of the academic year; this is necessary for computer-related courses and because more and more practical information -concerning administration, courses and exams - will be sent through your university e-mail address.
You are expected to activate your university e-mail, even if you gave a private email address when registering. Your university e-mail is necessary to receive the above mentioned information.

You can consult your university e-mail anywhere via the following site:
http://www.ulb.ac.be/tools/webmail.html

A helpdesk is available if you have questions or problems. You will find a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) on the website: http://www.vub.ac.be/tools/helpdesk.html

ICT HELPDESK

ICT is a helpdesk for students with ICT (Information and Communication Technology) problems. Via this helpdesk you can also get answers to your questions regarding PointCarré. ICT can be reached by sending an email to helpdesk@vub.ac.be.

If you have forgotten the password for your computer, you can get it back by indicating this on the interface. Your control question will pop up. No one else should know the answer to that self-defined question. You can work in public computer rooms, depending
on your faculty and/or study area.
