Courses
The range of sports offered at the Etterbeek campus is so broad that anyone can learn a new sport at his or her level. Expert coaching is provided and there is no obligation. You can also improve the technical or tactival skills required for your sport - or simply keep fit.
Courses
For those among you who would like to learn a completely new sport and find out more about the latest trends offered by the world of sports, the sports Department has organised a special series of lessons during the academic year. These always consist of 10 lessons lasting at least 1 hour each. As the number of participants per series of lessons is limited, you must register in advance! Yoy will also need a club card in order to do so.
Internal persons (students & VUB staff), alumni and healthcity members pay the internal fee of 40 €/course. External persons pay the external fee (60€/course)
Naginata
Naginata is a Japanese martial art, finding its origins on the battlefields of the Middle Ages, and originally practised by infantry. In order to practice Naginata, you will require a lance, which is also called a "Naginata". It consists of a 1.70m handle with a 50cm blade. In the mean time, the metal blade has been replaced by a blade made from bamboo. The armour of the Samurai has also evolved into a more sportive attire. Contempory Naginata, as it is practiced in Japan today, is taught in almost all Japanse primary schools and universities, like gymnastics in the West. Naginata training is accessible to everybody and is mixed (for both men and women). Naginata is not based on physical strength, but on technique and suppleness. Would you like to get to know Naginata? Come and join us for a free trail lesson on Thursday 7 October 2010.
