Confucius Institute at the VUB
Summer School

Introduction

This year's summer camp is organised in cooperation with the Confucius Institute at the ULB. It takes us to East China Normal University in Shanghai. After taking a placement test to evaluate the level of the students, every day starts with a Chinese language class. In the afternoon, several trips are planned, such as an afternoon to the Shanghai museum, the Beijing Opera and the Yu Gardens. Also a visit is planned to a Chinese family in Shanghai. On the second to last day, we make a one-day trip to Suzhou. This is an important Chinese city with a longstanding cultural tradition that is only a 30-minute train ride away.

The summer camp is an excellent opportunity to discover the vast richness of China’s past through its stories and monuments and to experience the intriguing complexity and seeming contradictions of the modern Chinese society. If you have attended a Chinese language course, it is the perfect place to put your skills into practice. Those who attended classes on Chinese Religion or Chinese Philosophy can see with their own eyes how China’s history is still present to this very day.

Sponsorship

The Confucius Institute at the VUB will cover the local expenses in China for a selection of candidates. This includes your stay at the university dorms, tuition fees, local group transport and between cities, entrance fees related to cultural visits.
