Compose your own programme 'à la carte' based on the following three complementary modules
• MODULE 1: Introduction to Business Economics • 12 – 14 January 2011 chair: Marc Goldchstein – Vrije Universiteit Brussel This course is designed to give people without any economic training a comprehensive introduction to general business economics, with emphasis on entrepreneurship. The module covers a wide range of disciplines, including financial management, human resources, marketing and industry dynamics. This module is the shortcut to a better understanding of the modern company, using examples from the biotechnology field to illustrate and clarify the topics discussed.
• MODULE 2: Introduction to Biotechnology • 17 – 18 January 2011 chair: Prof. Dr. Serge Muyldermans – Vrije Universiteit Brussel This module introduces the basic scientific principles of biotechnology. After an introduction on the building blocks of life (DNA, proteins, …), several important applications of modern biotechnology and their underlying technology will be presented.
• MODULE 3: Business Economics of Biotechnology • 19 – 21 January 2011 chair: Thomas Crispeels – Vrije Universiteit Brussel This course presents an up-to-date review of the characteristics and dynamics of the biotechnology industry and offers insight into a number of business processes such as financial management, intellectual property rights and business development within a modern biotechnology company.
The Crosstalks session puts forward an interdisciplinary and bottom up approach to tackle the future of medicines. Basic knowledge provided in module 1 and 2 is strongly recommended.
