Teaching in multilingual contexts presents numerous challenges for teaching and learning, and requires insights into the nature of multilingual behaviour, competence, development and learning, as well as knowledge of specific teaching methods, principles and techniques.
The aim of this programme is to improve the teaching and learning efficiency of those operating in multilingual learning contexts.
It helps them acquire theoretical knowledge about the phenomena of multilingualism, language learning and teaching.
It focuses in addition on developing practical skills and attitudes for:
(1) Managing multilingual teaching content and multilingual pupil populations.
(2) Functioning in a linguistically and culturally diverse learning environment.
It enables teachers and educators to better understand optimalise their teaching practices and, as such, enhance their professional efficiency.
Course organisation and content
- This programme is taught partly in English, French and German.
- Functional levels of oral and written proficiency in two of these languages are required to follow this programme.
- Classes during regular office hours but also evening or weekend sessions (Saturdays 9-12h)
- The programme consists of three modules:
- two academic courses (12 ECTS);
- expert seminar on multilingual education, second/foreign language learning, didactic approaches and techniques for teaching in multilingual classrooms (6 ECTS);
- practical internship or action research under the supervision of an internship coordinator (12 ECTS).

Conditions for admission
Holders of an academic or professional bachelor degree, particularly those who are active teachers, teachers-in-training or with an interest in pedagogy.
