Dear Researcher,
How does a renowned scientific institute like EMBL, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, prepare its researchers for future careers in academia, industry or government? What’s the secret of the EMBL International PhD Programme (EIPP), now running for over 25 years and a leading example for many research institutes? You can find it all out at the guest lecture by Dr. Hillebrand – the current EIPP Director – on 4 May 2010 in Leuven (11:00 AM) or in Gent (03:00 PM).
The talk is part of the VIB Research Training Course (VRTC). Launched last autumn, the initiative runs in collaboration with the science-oriented Doctoral Schools of Ghent University, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the University of Antwerp and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. With VRTC, VIB offers challenging training courses to keep researchers in the life sciences up to date with trends and technologies. Some months after its start, already over 100 researchers participated in different courses.

Registrants will be contacted about their preference to attend the talk in Gent or in Leuven.
Yours sincerely,
The VRTC team

Lecture on the Cornerstones of the EMBL International PhD Programme.
Established in 1983, the EMBL International PhD Programme (EIPP) is for over 25 years a crown jewel of the EMBL system. Its success is unique in Europe and built on well thought-out procedures that assure outstanding quality, close mentoring and an integrated experience in leading-edge research and advanced learning. Being a model for several research institutes that act in close collaboration with partnering universities – as VIB with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Ghent University, the University of Antwerp and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel – it is with the recently launched VIB Research Training Course the right time to have the EIPP Director (Dr. Hillebrand) with us to share the cornerstones of their renowned training activities. On top, the benefit of being an EIPP alumni for future careers (either in academia, agro/biotech/pharma industry or government) will be documented by some real life cases.
