2022-2023

COVID-19 seemed like a phenomenon from a distant past. However, it still had an impact even this academic year, albeit in a positive way: there was a strong desire to explore and break free! And we did. Read all about it in the 20th edition of the yearbook.

2021-2022

How does a historic building smell, how loud is a construction site, how hard does a 30-metre high scaffolding move and how fascinating is the incidence of light? In the academic year 2021-2022, we could again literally and figuratively sniff up architecture and we made good use of it. The gradual continuation of lessons and exercises on campus brought life back to the architecture studio. You can read all about it in the 19th edition of the yearbook.

2020-2021

Although we kicked off academic year 2020-2021 with a memorable graduation ceremony on the Grand Place in Brussels, also this year has been marked by the pandemic. From symposia, over thesis and doctoral defenses to even the ARCH week: almost everything was organised online. Yet sometimes, it also had its advantages, as you’ll read in this year book. But as soon as the regulations allowed it, we organised some physical activities on campus. In the 18th edition of the year book, you can read all about it.

2019-2020

The academic year 2019-2020 was marked by the coronavirus. Who could have imagined that our daily routine at the VUB would be interrupted so abruptly? In no time at all, we had to learn to work differently. Although the architecture studio in Building K remained empty a large part of the second semester, students, professors and researchers did their best to keep moving forward. With this 17th edition of the yearbook we take you along this challenging journey.

The year book 2016-2017 lists the research and educational activities of our department again. No less than eight PhD defences took place and there were numerous activities such as the alumni evening, architecture trip and architecture week. The latter took the form of a large inflatable bubble this year. Furthermore, this yearbook gives an insight into our research, our education and the work of our students.

7x5

In the academic year 2013-2014 the study programme engineer-architect exists 7x5 years and we didn't want to let that pass unnoticed. In honour of this 35th anniversary, we have published an overview publication in which we present the history of the young course, brought back to life through visual material, interviews and so on. In this booklet you will find, among other things, everything about the origins of this study programme, about the people who made it all possible, the research associated with it and about the history of our student union. 2005-2006

"This year, the department is working around the concept ´ FLOW´. As the term itself implies, it has no definite meaning. Comparable to a swarm or swirl shape, you can recognize a shape somewhere, but the shape itself is neither statically structured nor sharply defined. The fragments of a totality always move and take up a new position, but the totality remains recognizable..."

2004-2005

"..at the start of the 2004-2005 academic year it was decided to work again on a theme. Not a site-specific theme like last year (the coast), but something more universal. After an enthusiastic verbal storm ´TRANS´ came out. TRANS made us approach the existing activities from a different angle and was the breeding ground for new initiatives ... "

2003-2004

Here's the first yearbook. The members of the department believe that the time has come to position our education and research within the university community and to make some of our specific characteristics clear through the yearbook.
