Politics and Passions: How to Mobilize Affects in a Democratic Direction?

Abstract: In this lecture, Chantal Mouffe will argue that politics needs to have a partisan character and that it always deals with collective identities, with the creation of a ‘we’ as opposed to a ‘they.’ She will then examine how the common affects (passions) that are at stake in the creation of collective identities can be mobilized towards democratic objectives.
