Research Seminar

Should people with an immigrant background receive special group recognition in policy making? In the choice between a range of policy options for governing immigrant intergration and racial equality - varying from colour-blind policies to affirmative action - policymakers are faced with this 'dilemma of recognition'. The PhD project that will be presented explores how Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands deal with the dilemma of recognition by applying the distinction between 'colour-blind' and 'colour-conscious' policies. Based on a qualitative and comparative research design, the project aims to identify and explain policy trends in the field of immigrant integration.
