The BA and MA programmes Taal- en Letterkunde, the new MA programme Linguistics and Literary Studies and the Department Linguistics and Literary Studies (LIST) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel are strengthening the ties between the university and the city.

We are pleased to invite you, as an alumnus of our department, on Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 6.30 pm, for a literary journey through Brussels. Your guides will be Helen MacEwan, president of the Brussels Brontë Group and author of The Brontës in Brussels (2014) and Joseph Van Wassenhove, author of Bruxelles. La vie quotidienne au 19e siècle par les écrivains de l'époque (2016).

Your hosts are Prof. dr. Daniel Acke (Literature in French) and Prof. dr. Elisabeth Bekers (Literature in English), editors of Brussel schrijven. De stad als inspiratiebron sinds de 19e eeuw/Écrire Bruxelles. La ville comme source d'inspiration depuis le 19e siècle (VUB Press 2016). This bilingual book examines how Brussels appears in literature in various European languages; contributors include professors Diana Castilleja, Christophe Collard, Dirk Vanden Berghe, and Hans Vandevoorde and scholars Lesley Penné, Cathérine Thomas and Marc van Zoggel.

At the drink, you may join us to discuss the lectures, to reminisce and to network with former class mates, current students, emeriti and academic members of staff.
