Towards a real language pollicy for universities
The use of languages and cultures in an international student campus

The creation of an International Student Campus raises the question of communication between the student citizens. In which language are they supposed to communicate?

Is the current trend of using English as a lingua franca really capable of meeting their needs?

Might it not be wiser to consider a concept of multilingualism and plurality of culture more imaginative and creative than that of simply tacking English on to one's own?

So, what language policy do we need for the future International Student Campus? With what impact on teaching and research, on services and communication, on communicative and cultural activities, on the acquisition of languages/cultures, setting out from a curricular/extra-curricular offer (cf. tandem)?

So, what interaction would be appropriate between the University Campus and its urban environment on these various points?
In order that each of the languages spoken may be considered worthy for communication in all spheres of knowledge and social life, without losing any of its standing, it is important to question some of the certainties. Besides the key question of the why of internationalisation, it is important to develop, as the most appropriate means to a well-defined end, a language policy deserving of the name, diverse and inclusive.
