Migration and the inclusion of minorities are complex and highly salient societal challenges. States and societies struggle to respond to diversity resulting from immigration as well as to continued socio-economic inequalities.

In order to think about how we can build fair and inclusive migration and diversity policies, we recently created an interdisciplinaryresearch group, called BIRMM (the ‘Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and minorities’), open to all VUB researchers with an interest in these research themes.

One of the options we want to explore is the publication of an open-access essay book for a wide audience. Such a book would contain analysis and policy recommendations from different points of view and different disciplines. We would present this book during a high-level event next year.

We will kick-off this project with a Food For Thought session on Friday 26th April at 12pm at U-Residence where you are kindly invited to learn more on this initiative and provide input.  Join Prof. Dr. Ilke Adam, Prof. Dr. Florian Trauner, Dr. Nick Schuermans and Dr. Serena d’Agostino during a nice lunch around round tables!

Places are limited and registration is mandatory (see below)

Further information: During that same day, on Friday 26th of April, BIRMM organizes its first full research day. Many of you have sent us an abstract and will present their research in the morning or afternoon sessions. A full program can be found on the BIRMM website soon.
