Regularisation of Undocumented Migrants in Belgium

ULB and VUB are jointly organising a day of events on the topic of "Regularisation of Undocumented Migrants in Belgium". It is part of wider series of events across different universities in Belgium on this topic coordinated by the Coordination des Sans-Papiers.

Programme outline:

  • 10:00-12:00 Workshop #1: Info session - raising awareness about the situation of undocumented migrants in Belgium
  • 13:00-15:00 Workshop #2: Students for Dialogue - exchanging thoughts and sharing opinions on regularisation
  • 15:00-17:00 Workshop #3: World Café - suggestions & solutions for illegal migration in Belgium (to be discussed further in the Debate at 19:00)
  • 17:00-18:30 Reception
  • 19:00-21:00 Debate with experts and politicans, followed by drinks. 

The workshops and reception will be held at VUB, Pleinlaan 9, -1.

The debate will take place at ULB, Boulevard de la Plaine, Forum A/B (across the road from nr 9).

  • Stefaan Smis, expert in international law and human rights and judge at the European Court of Human Rights (VUB) 
  • Andrea Rea, sociologist on migrations, director of GERME (ULB)
  • Philippe de Bruycker, specialist in European migration law at the IEE (ULB)
  • Glacomo Orsini, expert in urban sociology and European studies on migration from IES (VUB) 

Politicians:

  • Zoe Genot, Brussels Parliament, ECOLO
  • Vincent Lurquin, lawyer specialising in rights of foreigns and regularisation, member of DEFI
  • Marie Arena, MEP, PS
  • Max Vancauwenberghe, president of COMAC, PTB
